Shireen had drug-resistant tuberculosis. She had just returned to her village from the main city in southern Pakistan when she began to feel feverish, weak and dizzy, and was battling a persistent cough. She had undergone years of trialling different antibiotics until she finally started to feel better but she was still coughing. Around 1.5 million people in Pakistan have tuberculosis, which is increasingly becoming drug resistant. Untreated, tuberculosis can be fatal
