Ameer used to work in the dairy industry in Karachi, southern Pakistan, where he contracted drug-resistant tuberculosis. His illness meant he was no longer able to work and had to return home to a rural area where this is his only shelter.

A few months later, Ameer’s brother, Rab, got the same illness. Although they were all receiving treatment, the brothers were only well enough to be able to pick up small jobs around the village or to beg.

They were also looking after the children their older brother had left behind after he died from complications of diabetes.
